The patient had been receiving prolonged broad spectrum antibiotics for a Pseudomonas aeruginosa related to another diagnosis. She then developed a K. pneumoniae infection.
Physicians used an FMT transplant from a younger sibling.
In the following 18 months, the patient has not had a recurrence of K. pneumoniae.
Researchers suggest FMT should be considered for patients with recurrent clinical infections from highly resistant organisms.
