“Dr. Schoenthaler inspires her patients, their caregivers and everyone she touches with her compassionate approach and devotion to outstanding patient care,” Christine Schuster, RN, president and CEO of Emerson Hospital, said. “Patients return to visit Dr. Schoenthaler years after they were diagnosed with cancer because of the compassionate care she provided them during a challenging time in their lives.”
Dr. Schoenthaler has worked at Emerson Hospital since 1997. She serves as a mentor, teaching new physicians how to humanize cancer diagnosis to help patients discover a fulfilling life regardless of their disease. Dr. Schoenthaler has also won multiple awards for her work in medical memoir and has written many articles published in the national press.
“I serve my patients in the best ways I know how — with a focus on education, compassion, communication and using the latest advances in radiation treatments,” Dr. Schoenthaler said at the event. “It is humbling to receive this award from Emerson, where providing compassionate care is intrinsic to how every clinician approaches their patients. It is an honor to work with such extraordinary colleagues who always put the needs of their patients first.”
