CMS to Support Community-Based Housing for Disabled, Elderly as Alternative to Institutional Care

CMS has issued a final rule supporting home and community-based living options for disabled and older Americans.

The final rule defines the options as alternatives to institutional care and will only support settings in which quality of each individual’s living experience is taken into account.

The government will provide technical assistance to states, including during the transition period intended to provide states with time to ensure their programs meet the requirements for home or community-based services detailed in the final rule, according to a news release.
