According to the report, a small surgical fire broke out during a patient’s outpatient procedure. Operating room staff stabilized and transferred the patient to another hospital, where the patient was re-assessed and released to go home the same day. No hospital staff members were injured during the incident.
CMS officials gave Fairview Lakes until March 25 to activate new measures that would prevent such an occurrence from happening again. The hospital submitted a corrective action plan, comprised of new operating room safety policies and procedures. Upon accepting the action plan, CMS determined Fairview Lakes could continue its participation in the Medicare program.
