In Cleveland, African-American infants are three times more likely to die before their first birthday than Caucasian babies, according to Cleveland Clinic, and Hispanic infants are two times as likely.

To combat the issue, the hospitals and other organizations are hosting a free, educational “Save Our Babies” event on April 20. Attendees can talk with local health experts and learn about infant safety through stations focusing on topics such as safe infant sleep, breastfeeding, family planning and safety issues like baby CPR and car seat protocol.

Other partners in the event include the Cleveland Department of Public Health, the Ohio Department of Health, Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority and March of Dimes, among other organizations.
