The patients were on separate flights. One patient, a child, vomited on the flight and was screened by authorities upon landing. The child had no other symptoms, no known risk of exposure and was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital and observed in isolation “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the report.
An ABC7 report indicates the patient was transferred for observation in isolation to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The other adult passenger reported nausea and diarrhea on the flight from Liberia to Chicago but did not have a temperature and reported no known risk of exposure during screening. The passenger reportedly was diagnosed with typhoid fever in August. The passenger is being monitored in isolation at Rush University Medical Center, according to the Tribune report.
