CDC launches tool to track foodborne disease outbreaks

The CDC has released a redesigned version of its Foodborne Outbreak Online Database Tool, which allows users to search nearly two decades of outbreak data by state, food or germ.

The tool was originally developed in 2009 and included national foodborne outbreak data reported to the CDC from as far back as 1998.

Today, the redesigned FOOD Tool features interactive maps, graphs and tables, as well as functions that allow users to search by specific food ingredients, view a "quick stats" display and get case counts for multistate outbreaks.

Access the updated tool here.
