CDC investigates Salmonella outbreak linked to kosher chicken; 1 dead

Salmonella has sickened 17 people in four states, including one person who died, the CDC said Aug. 29.

Eight people were hospitalized, including one patient who died in New York.

The CDC found some kosher chicken products are contaminated with Salmonella and have sickened people.

Patients reported eating kosher chicken, and when asked about the specific brand eaten, several reported the Empire Kosher brand.

The earliest illness linked to this outbreak started Sept. 25, 2017, and the most recent case began June 4.
