Broward Health welcomed 141 residents and fellows during its annual White Coat Ceremony on June 26, marking the largest graduate medical education class of the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based health system’s history, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
The incoming cohort brings Broward Health’s total GME enrollment to 388 residents and fellows across 28 residency and fellowship programs, spanning cardiovascular, emergency medicine, pediatrics and other specialties.
“This record-setting class reflects the continued growth and strength of Broward Health’s GME program,” said Shane Strum, president and CEO of Broward Health. “Residents and fellows enter the next stage of their medical training and affirm their commitment to caring for patients with compassion, integrity and the highest standards of care.”
The ceremony coincides with Broward Health’s opening earlier this year of a 28,250-square-foot GME training facility at Broward Health Medical Center — five times larger than the previous space and among the largest GME facilities in South Florida, according to the release. The center includes a simulation lab, on-call suites and dedicated wellness rooms designed to address physician burnout.
“These residents and fellows are the future of healthcare,” said Patricia Rowe-King, MD, designated institutional official of Broward Health Graduate Medical Education.
