Boston VA hospital patient infected with Legionnaires

A patient who visited three Boston area Veterans Affairs hospitals has been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, CBS Boston reports.

It is unclear where the patient was infected, but officials are retracing the patient’s movements to determine the infection’s source. They also are testing the water at all three hospitals for Legionella bacteria.

“We don’t anticipate any large-scale problems,” said Katherine Linsenmeyer, MD, associate hospital epidemiologist with VA Boston Healthcare System.

The VA says it conducts quarterly water testing and meets industry standards.
