Blue Cross Blue Shield Association launches national designation for maternity care

Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has created a national, evidence-based maternity care designation program to help prospective parents identify hospitals that deliver quality, affordable care.

Under the program, hospitals are evaluated based on several quality measures, including early elective delivery statistics, programs to promote successful breastfeeding, overall patient satisfaction and patient willingness to recommend the hospital to others.

"This innovative program offers parents an objective source of information to help find quality care for new mothers and their children," said BCBSA Senior Vice President and CMO Trent Haywood, MD.

Already, BCBS companies have designated more than 280 hospitals as Blue Distinction Centers and more than 650 hospitals as Blue Distinction Centers+ for Maternity Care.
