The Better Pharmaceuticals and Devices for Children Act was introduced by Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and included as part of a bill to reauthorize the Food and Drug Administration’s user fees.
The bill seeks to achieve several goals:
• Ensure pediatric studies are planned earlier in the drug development process.
• Ensure pediatric studies are completed.
• Increase transparency of completed, pending and declined studies in children.
• Continue the success of the pediatric medical device incentive and pediatric device consortia initiative.
The bill now proceeds to a full Senate vote.
