St. Louis-based Ascension has opened a Clinical Innovation Institute that will focus on embedding technology and innovation to improve patient care and clinician satisfaction.
The institute will bridge clinical and digital teams to vet the use of new technology and ensure thoughtful implementation, the health system said in an Aug. 4 news release. It will also support broader efforts to improve the quality of patient care, experience and growth.
A multidisciplinary team of C-suite leaders will oversee the institute. Mitesh Patel, MD, will serve as chief clinical transformation officer; Samit Desai, MD, chief medical information officer; Fred Masoudi, MD, chief academic officer; and Jon Taves, associate vice president of clinical innovation.
Part of the institute’s work will focus on expanding access to clinical trials and using data insights to accelerate time to treatment.
The effort comes as health systems nationwide look to boost efficiency and redesign care delivery through ambient documentation tools, virtual nursing models and team-based approaches.
