APIC names 6 Heroes of Infection Prevention

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology has named six winners of the Heroes of Infection Prevention Award, given to people who reduced infection, raised awareness and improved the health and well-being of patients, healthcare workers and the community.

The Heroes of Infection Prevention for 2015 are:

  • Terry Burger, BSN, RN, with Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa.
  • Catherine Fonnie, RN, with Rokupa Government Hospital in Sierra Leone
  • Mercy Joseph, RN, with King Fahad Medical City in Saudi Arabia
  • Dana Stephens with KentuckyOne Health in Lexington
  • Carol Vance, RN, BSN, with Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis
  • Beverly Vickery, RN, with Noland Services in Trussville, Ala.

Since the Heroes of Infection Prevention Award was established in 2006, more than 100 people and organizations have recognized for their work in reducing HAIs.
