A second couple claims CHA Fertility Center in Los Angeles mixed up their embryos in a lawsuit filed July 10, which says the couple had to go through court to obtain custody after another mother unwittingly gave birth to their child, according to ABC News.
Anni and Ashot Manukyan are one of three couples whose embryos were involved in the mix-up, according to their lawyer Adam Wolf. A New York couple claimed CHA gave them the wrong embryos in a lawsuit filed last week. The mother gave birth to two babies, and DNA testing revealed they were not related to the couple or to each other, the lawsuit said. The couple was forced to give both children to their biological parents.
The Manukyans claims they are one of those sets of parents. They decided to use two of their embryos and discard a third to try having a child through CHA in August 2018, the lawsuit says. However, they claim Ms. Manukyan was impregnated with someone else's embryo, which did not result in a pregnancy.
The Manukyans did not learn they had a son until two weeks after he was born, and they had to go through an "expensive" legal battle to obtain custody, the lawsuit said.
CHA Fertility Center did not respond to Becker's request for comment.
