As flu season approaches, the American Nurses Association has urged all registered nurses to get the seasonal influenza vaccination, as well as advise their patients to do the same.

“As the nation’s largest healthcare workforce, nurses must be true advocates, educators and role models of health and wellness,” said ANA President Pamela F. Cipriano, PhD, RN. “This includes setting the standard for immunization to protect ourselves, our families, our patients and our communities.”

The organization also adopted a new immunization position that calls for all people age 6 months and older to get vaccinated every season, except those with health exemptions and other factors. The ANA position aligns with CDC guidance.
