AHA Urges Delay of Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting

The American Hospital Association is urging CMS to delay the proposed start date for the inpatient psychiatric facility quality reporting program by six months, according to an AHA News Now report.

The hospital inpatient prospective payment system proposed rule requires IPFs begin reporting six quality measures Oct. 1.

AHA sent a letter to CMS calling for the agency to push back the IPF quality reporting program to April 1, 2013 on the grounds that IPF units within general acute hospitals need more time to establish infrastructure to support accurate quality reporting. Most IPF units in acute hospitals, which account for more than two-thirds of all IPFs, have never reported quality measures before, according to AHA.
