The foundation released its 12th annual Healthcare Equality Index, which scores healthcare facilities on their dedication to enhancing the equitable treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees. The HEI survey assesses four areas: non-discrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement.
This year, 680 healthcare facilities participated in the HEI survey, and 406 earned a score of 100, achieving the Leader in LGBTQ Health Care Equality designation.
The survey also shows more than 50 percent of HEI survey participants have written gender transition guidelines, and 75 percent offer trans-inclusive benefits, an 8 percentage point increase over last year.
There was also a 60 percent increase in the number of survey participants who reported their EHRs capture a patient’s sexual orientation, and a 40 percent increase in participants reporting their EHRs captured a patient’s gender identity.
