The number of U.S. hospitals to earn the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet designation five or more times has grown to 144, up from 136 in March.
Magnet recognition is the ANCC’s highest honor for nursing excellence. Hospitals can apply for redesignation every four years.
There are 690 Magnet facilities worldwide as of September 2026, according to the ANCC — 657 in the U.S. and 33 international organizations across 14 countries. Magnet hospitals represent 10.8% of U.S. hospitals, based on the American Hospital Association’s count of 6,100 total U.S. hospitals. The 144 hospitals below — about 2% of U.S. hospitals — have earned the designation at least five times.
Seven hospitals lead the list with seven designations each: Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., The Miriam Hospital in Providence, R.I., and University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
