Here are four things to know from the report:

  1. There were 62 transactions in 2024, three more than in 2023.

There was an almost even split between for-profit organizations acquiring facilities from not-for-profit sellers and vice versa, at 33 and 29, respectively.

  2. The number of transactions grew from 48 in 2022 to 62 in 2024.

In 2022, not-for-profits made the majority of acquisitions, but by 2024 for-profit organizations made the most acquisitions.

  3. Of the 33 transactions in which a for-profit organization made an acquisition from a not-for-profit, 70% involved a skilled nursing facility.
  4. Pennsylvania reported the most 2024 transactions with nine. Wisconsin reported six, Ohio and Illinois reported five each, and Minnesota and Tennessee reported four each.
