Alaska had the highest total nurse staffing and RN staff levels out of all 50 states and the District of Columbia in the third quarter of 2024, according to a report published by the Long Term Care Community Coalition.
CMS measures and reports nursing home staffing levels as the number of staffed hours per resident day.
The average nursing home staffing levels in the U.S. for the third quarter of 2024 were 3.73 HPRD of total nurse staff and 0.60 HPRD of RN staff.
Alaska also had the highest performance for actual versus expected nurse staffing level during the third quarter, according to the report.
