Here are three things to know:
1. The partnership will allow more than 700 million Chinese consumers to access WebMD’s health content via Tencent’s digital platforms.
2. The goal of the agreement is to provide consumers accurate online health information, as current sources of information are inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, according to various Chinese medical professionals.
3. Jeremy Schneider, senior vice president of corporate development and global strategy at WebMD, said in the company’s July 24 statement the partnership “brings together two of the largest and most credible digital brands [and provides them] to the Chinese consumer.”
“More than 75 million people in the U.S. rely on WebMD every month to learn about symptoms, wellness and health news and trends. Now, Chinese consumers can do the same, knowing they can put their trust and confidence in WebMD content on Tencent platforms,” he added.
