The Healthy Behaviour Data Challenge — developed through a partnership with the CDC, Canadian government and MaRS Discovery District, a Toronto, Canada-based innovation hub — encourages researchers, students, private sector organizations and public sector institutions to identify and evaluate new ways to monitor public health.
Through the challenge, the U.S. and Canadian health agencies are asking innovators to create new methods of sourcing physical activity, sleep and nutrition data. The ultimate goal is to integrate successful new data collection methods into existing public health surveillance systems like self-reported surveys and hospital data.
The challenge begins by asking participants to propose new data sources, platforms or methodologies for measuring a health indicator at the national population level. The selected finalists from this first step will advance to phase two, in which they will test and implement their concept.
