WalletHub's newest analysis focuses on the economic and societal costs of smoking.

Analysts assessed the true per-person cost of smoking in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. They calculated potential financial losses associated with smoking and second hand smoke, including both the lifetime and annual cost of a cigarette pack per day, healthcare expenditures and income losses.

Here are the states ranked in terms of the highest lifetime costs per-person associated with smoking. States are listed from lowest individual lifetime costs to highest.
