University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center was awarded $56.25 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration to lead the newly established Pediatric Prevention Network.
Previously known as the Pediatric Pandemic Network, the new network will be dedicated to pediatric preparedness, prevention, response, recovery, and resilience, according to a Sept. 14 system news release. The network is broadening its original pandemic remit to address a wider range of threats, including natural disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, mass casualty incidents, environmental hazards and everyday emergencies.
The network will be led by experts at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, and will bring together children’s hospitals, health systems, public health agencies, emergency management organizations and more to improve pediatric readiness nationwide.
The agency is also awarding at least 10 children’s hospitals grants to participate in the work. So far, only three hospitals have committed to participation. Here they are, along with their HRSA-granted award total:
- Children’s National: $56.25 million
- University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center: $56.25 million
- University of Alabama at Birmingham: $22.5 million
