St. Louis sees almost 2 dozen synthetic opioid overdoses in 24 hours: 4 things to know

Nearly 24 people overdosed in downtown St. Louis over a 24-hour period, according to a Wednesday report from Fox 2 now.

Here are four things to know.

1. A significant portion of the overdoses occurred among homeless individuals.

2. Law enforcement believes synthetic opioids caused the overdoses, as many individuals demonstrated violent behavior or seizures, which are both symptoms of synthetic drug use.

3. Naloxone, the anti-opioid overdose drug, is ineffective at treating synthetic opioid overdoses.

4. Investigators with the city’s metropolitan police department are trying to determine the source of the synthetic opioids.
