Johns Hopkins receives $300M federal grant to expand public health initiatives in developing countries

Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, part of the school of public health, received a $300 million federal grant to promote public health programs in developing countries, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Agency for International Development to establish programs that encourage healthy behaviors in developing countries such as using modern contraception, receiving testing for HIV and sleeping under bed nets to prevent vector-borne diseases.

The Center for Communication Programs will partner with several organizations such as Save the Children, Camber Collective, ideas42 and ThinkPlace Kenya to lead the public health initiative in other countries.

"With this investment, we have an incredible opportunity to test and scale new approaches, increase efficiency and to serve more people," Susan Krenn, executive director of the Center for Communication Programs, told the Baltimore Sun.
