Gallup-Healthways ranks well being of 190 US communities

A new Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index report investigates the comparative well-being of 190 communities across the United States. Florida, California, Colorado and Texas boast 14 of the 20 communities ranked highest for community well-being.

The report, titled "State of American Well-Being: 2015 Community Well-Being Rankings and Access to Care," uses information collected from more than 350,000 telephone interviews with U.S. adults between Jan. 2, 2014, and Dec. 30, 2015.

The Well-Being Index ranks communities based on metrics that fall within five essential elements of well-being, including purpose, social, financial, community and physical factors.

Based on the report, here are the 15 communities ranked highest for overall well-being.

1. Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Fla.
2. Salinas, Calif.
3. North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota, Fla.
4. Fort Collins, Colo.
5. Town of Barnstable, Mass.
6. Santa Cruz-Watsonville, Calif.
7. Boulder, Colo.
8. Charlottesville, Va.
9. Anchorage, Alaska
10. San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles-Arroyo Grande, Calif.
11. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas
12. Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, Calif.
13. Urban Honolulu, Hawaii
14. Provo-Orem, Utah
15. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.

In addition to being named the nation's best community in well-being, Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Fla., was ranked No. 1 in community well-being, No. 4 in purpose and No. 6 in social well-being.
