Statista, a statistics portal that gathers statistics and studies from more than 18,000 sources, examined for-profit hospitals in the U.S. and determined the eight largest health systems in the nation.

The ranking is based on the number of individual hospitals each health system owns as of January 2017.

Here are the eight largest for-profit hospitals in the U.S. in descending order based on the number of hospitals.

1. Hospital Corporation of America (Nashville) — 169 hospitals
2. Community Health Systems (Franklin, Tenn.) — 158
3. Tenet Healthcare (Dallas) — 79
4. LifePoint Hospitals (Brentwood, Tenn.) — 72
5. Prime Healthcare Services (Ontario, Calif.) — 44
6. Universal Health Services (King of Prussia, Penn.) — 28
7. IASIS Healthcare (Franklin, Tenn.) — 18
8. Ardent Health Services (Nashville) — 12
