Where hospital pharmacists are in highest demand

Compared to early 2024, demand for hospital pharmacists grew in the first three months of 2025, according to data released May 14 from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, which publishes quarterly pharmacy demand reports. 

In the first quarter of 2025, the AACP recorded 3,476 job postings for hospital pharmacists. For first-quarter 2024, that figure was 1,972. The organization saw 20,053 pharmacist job postings in the first quarter of 2025 and 39,111 postings for pharmacy technicians.  

By region, 720 hospital pharmacist job postings were in the Northeast, 802 in the Midwest, 963 in the West and 991 in the South. By state, California had the most postings with 446, followed by Texas at 213, Pennsylvania at 206 and New York at 168. 

On a more granular level, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Calif., metropolitan area had the highest number of hospital pharmacist job postings at 121. The Boston and Philadelphia metro areas followed close behind, with 110 and 104, respectively.
