Walmart has opened its largest centralized prescription processing facility in Frederick, Md., expanding efforts to streamline pharmacy operations across its national network.

The 102,000-square-foot center can fulfill up to 100,000 prescriptions daily and is set to serve more than 700 stores in 16 states and Washington, D.C., according to a May 22 news release from the company.

The move serves Walmart’s broader plan to shift more prescription fulfillment away from individual stores to allow in-store pharmacists to focus on clinical services like immunizations and basic testing.

Additional facilities are planned for Arizona and Missouri in 2026, the release said.
