USP delays implementation date of updated compounding standards

The United States Pharmacopeia is postponing the effective dates of several revised compounding standards because of appeals against them, according to a Sept. 23 American Hospital Association news release.

The postponed standards include general chapter 795, which deals with nonsterile preparations; chapter 797, which deals with sterile preparations; and chapter 825, which deals with radiopharmaceuticals.
USP new general chapter 800, which deals with hazardous drug handling, will remain official but only informational and will not be applicable until the appeals process is complete, according to the news release.

The delay will remain in place until the USP reviews the appeals.
