Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare has become the first mid-to-large integrated health system in the U.S. and the seventh health system overall, to receive the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Certified Center of Excellence designation for medication-use safety and pharmacy practice.

The certification recognizes high standards in pharmacy operations, including medication safety, patient care services and adherence to best practices. OSF HealthCare earned the designation across 16 hospitals, six community pharmacies, one specialty pharmacy, one home-infusion pharmacy, one ePharmacy and a distribution center, according to a May 14 news release from the health system.

The certification process overseen by ASHP involves a rigorous assessment of pharmacy performance and service delivery, and is commonly awarded to large academic centers.
