New Orleans-based Ochsner Children’s and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices have started a joint fellowship, aiming to train pharmacists in medication safety.
The yearlong program will provide participants with hands-on experience in preventing medication errors through virtual learning with ISMP experts and on-site work at Ochsner Children’s set to start in the summer, according to a March 24 news release from the health system.
The initiative marks the first collaboration between ISMP and a healthcare provider to establish a structured program dedicated to medication error prevention, the release said. The fellows will engage in analyzing medication errors, develop prevention strategies and contribute to educational initiatives.
