‘No-brainer’: PBMs commit to posting TrumpRx price comparisons

The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association and its members committed to sharing TrumpRx’s cash prices for drugs through their real-time benefit tools and other cost transparency platforms.

An Aug. 13 news release said the association coordinated with the Trump administration and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz, MD, on the effort. PCMA members include Elevance Health’s CarelonRx, CVS Health, Cigna’s Express Scripts, Humana, MedImpact Healthcare Systems, Navitus Health Solutions, UnitedHealth Group’s Optum Rx, Prime Therapeutics, VytlOne and Welldyne. The news release said prices from TrumpRx, a direct-to-consumer drug discount website, will be listed when aligned with plan coverage and allowed by law.

“If there are times when a product is cheapest on TrumpRx, patients should know that. This administration has embraced the use of real-time benefit tools to give patients more information, and we strongly embrace this technology,” PCMA President and CEO David Marin said. “This commitment will allow consumers to compare options and make better informed choices about costs and where they access prescription drugs. It’s a no-brainer for our industry and for American families.”

Previous settlements between the Federal Trade Commission and PBMs regarding alleged inflation of insulin prices stipulated TrumpRx coverage or the counting of TrumpRx payments toward patient deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums under certain circumstances.

Meanwhile, employer use of the “Big Three” PBMs — CVS Caremark, Express Scripts and Optum Rx — has been waning. The share of workplaces relying on these PBMs dropped from 63% in 2025 to 54% in 2026, according to the 2026 “Pulse of the Purchaser” survey from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions.
