House panel will give floor to pharma execs after August recess

Elijah Cummings, D-Md., House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman, plans to invite drug company executives to testify in front of the committee after the August recess, according to The Hill.

The invite was announced at the end of a hearing last week on the impact of high drug costs on patients.

“I want to tell you, this may make you feel some hope: We’re going to have the drug company folks sitting in the same seats as soon as we come back,” Mr. Cummings said, according to The Hill. “And we’re going to try to understand some of why they’re doing what they’re doing.”

The House Oversight panel launched an investigation into high drug costs and demanded documents from drugmakers in January, but pharmaceutical executives have not testified before the committee.

Drug company executives were grilled by the Senate Finance Committee earlier this year. Most of the executives blamed insurers and pharmacy benefit managers for high drug prices.
