The FDA’s leader of drug and food inspections, imports and investigations abruptly announced he plans to exit the agency next week, according to a May 5 CBS News report.
Michael Rogers, associate commissioner for inspections and investigations, told staff his last day at the FDA will be May 14.
The news comes amid drastic personnel changes at the agency, which laid off full-time employees as part of HHS’ restructuring plan to cut 10,000 federal workers. In recent weeks, the FDA has reinstated an unspecified number of employees previously working in medical device regulation, scientists and inspection staff.
