A new study showed that the experimental drug lorundrostat led to reductions in blood pressure in patients with uncontrolled hypertension already taking multiple medications.

The randomized, placebo-controlled trial, the results of which were published April 23 in The New England Journal of Medicine, involved 285 participants. Patients were assigned to one of three groups: a placebo group, a group that received a stable dose of 50 mg daily, or a group that received a dose that could be increased from 50 mg to 100 mg if blood pressure maintained high levels after four weeks.

Overall, the study found that those who received the drug saw greater reductions in 24-hour average blood pressure over 12 weeks compared to those receiving the placebo.
