Three days prior, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of a new mpox strain, clade 1b, as a public health emergency of international concern.
Bavarian Nordic, which supplied more than 15 million mpox vaccine doses during the previous outbreak in 2022, said it is working with the Africa CDC to ensure continued equitable access.
Multiple countries in central and eastern Africa are reporting outbreaks of the clade 1b strain. As of Aug. 14, there are more than 15,600 reported cases and 537 deaths, according to the WHO.
