Covenant Health, based in Knoxville, Tenn., has named John Choi, PharmD, as chief pharmacy officer, effective March 16. He will oversee all pharmaceutical operations across the system, which includes nine acute-care hospitals.
Dr. Choi brings nearly 20 years of experience to the role, according to a March 24 news release from the health system. He most recently served as senior director of pharmacy at Centra Health in Lynchburg, Va., where he led inpatient and ambulatory services for six hospitals and more than 50 clinics.
During his tenure at Centra Health, Dr. Choi’s efforts led to $45 million in annual cost savings, and he led enterprisewide efforts in compliance, automation and medication safety. His background spans sterile compounding, 340B, retail pharmacy, postgraduate residency programs and medication therapy management.
