Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health has partnered with Civica Rx in an effort to reduce the impact of drug shortages on patient care.
The partnership will provide Avera Health with more stable access to essential generic sterile injectable medications, many of which are frequently in short supply across the U.S., according to a May 28 news release from the pharmaceutical company.
“The partnership with Civica helps us better serve our patients by providing them the medicines they need at a point of care,” Thomas Johnson, PharmD, Avera Health’s vice president of diagnostic and therapeutic services, said in the release.
Drug shortages continue to be a widespread issue, with more than 99% of hospital and health system pharmacists reporting shortages, according to the American Hospital Association, with 85% describing the impact as critical or moderate, the release said.
