Affected employees will leave the organization on March 22. A spokesperson told the Daily Camera that AstraZeneca will work with employees to assess whether there are other opportunities for employment within the organization.
The drugmaker will close its manufacturing plants in Boulder and Longmont, Colo. The company said the decision was made to consolidate biologics manufacturing into one facility in Frederick, Md., to improve efficiency. Neither of the Colorado facilities were currently manufacturing biologics, but they were set to form part of a biologics network, a spokesperson said.
