PillPack, acquired by Amazon last year, was informed last week that Surescripts was planning to cut off its access to patient drug data, which comes from a third-party entity, ReMyHealth. According to CNBC, this could seriously harm Pillpack’s business.
PillPack’s service relies on this data to maintain an accurate list of patient medications, so it can help them keep up with refills and uncover duplicate subscriptions.
Although PillPack doesn’t contract directly with Surescripts for patient data, it uses ReMyHealth, which compiles raw data from Surescripts, cleans it up and offers it to clients.
Amazon is considering legal action against Surescripts to prevent the e-prescribing company from ending its access to the data from ReMyHealth.
