Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead Rejects Medicaid Expansion

Republican Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead has said he doesn't want the state to accept federal funding to expand its Medicaid program under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a report from The Washington Post.

Gov. Mead told reporters problems with the PPACA rollout undermined his confidence in the federal government's ability to keep its promise to cover most of the cost of expansion, according to the report. Under the reform law, states have the option of expanding their Medicaid programs to cover people earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. Currently, 25 states have decided not to move forward with the expansion.

Wyoming's Republican-led legislature voted against accepting federal funds for expansion last year, according to the report. An additional 16,000 low-income adults would have been covered if the state had decided to expand its program in 2014.
