The two firms — Feasterville, Pa.-based Xpress Healthcare and Dallas-based New Benefits — used untrue, deceptive and misleading advertising to sell fake health insurance plans through Facebook, the division said Sept. 27. The companies also did not have a license to sell insurance in Iowa.
“While it can be convenient for consumers to purchase insurance online, it’s also easier for those wishing to defraud people to do harm,” Iowa Insurance Division spokesperson Chance McElhaney said.
