Individual health premiums to rise 30% in Utah

The Utah Department of Insurance said Thursday premium rates for health plans on the state's individual marketplace will jump an average of 30 percent for 2017, KSL reports.

Department officials said health insurer SelectHealth's silver plan, used to set subsidies for marketplace enrollees, stands at about $200 a month.

Eighty-seven percent of Utah residents who enroll through the marketplace receive subsidies that offset monthly premiums an average of 69 percent, according to the report.

Rate hikes for small group plans will average 10 percent next year. A total of 52 plans will be offered on Utah's 2017 individual exchange, down from 120 last year.
