For coverage beginning Jan. 1, certain Medicare Advantage beneficiaries will be able to use computers, telephones or mobile devices to connect with physicians regarding nonemergency medical issues like cold and flu, headaches and skin infections. Each visit will have applicable copays.

While this is the first time MDLive’s platform will be available to Humana’s Regional Medicare Advantage preferred provider organization plans in Georgia and South Carolina, the payer introduced the benefit in 2016 for other Medicare Advantage plans.

“With on-demand services playing a big role in people’s lives today, it’s important that we offer our members access to on-demand care to help reduce some of the primary barriers that prevent people from getting medical care,” Humana’s Regional Medicare President Jim Laughlin said.
