Humana's tax break for new digital health center delayed over labor dispute queries

An expected tax break for Humana's new digital health and analytics center in Boston is in limbo after the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council rejected Gov. Charlie Baker's recommended $225,000 tax incentive package, according to The Boston Globe.

In August, Humana said it will establish a center for digital health and analytics in Boston.

The center, to be called Humana Studio H, will focus on developing new products and services to use across the health insurer's operations. Within the next five years, 250 individuals are expected to staff the hub.

While the council usually approves what the state administration recommends, in a narrow vote, it rejected the initial request after it said Humana did not answer an application question regarding past labor disputes or settlements. The council did certify Humana's project is eligible for a tax break, and may take up the issue again at its December meeting.
