Executives from Aetna, Anthem and other payers called on Connecticut's governor to stop legislation aimed at creating a public, state-subsidized health plan, according to the Hartford Courant.
Executives from six health insurers — Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, ConnectiCare, Harvard Pilgrim and UnitedHealthcare — asked Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont to halt the plan until more details are unveiled, like how much the plan may cost.
"Bills of this magnitude, representing a fundamental and material change to insurance market operations and regulation, require careful and thoughtful consideration to avoid unintended consequences that could have a deleterious effect on job growth and economic development," the executives wrote in a letter to Mr. Lamont, according to the Hartford Courant.
Mr. Lamont supports the bill, which would create a state-sponsored health plan called Connecticut Option. While the cost of the plan has not been determined, annual costs could be in the tens of millions of dollars, according to the report.
