Former CMS officials, Molina Healthcare CEO to lead health insurance enrollment campaign

Former CMS officials and insurance executives launched an initiative Wednesday aimed at increasing public outreach ahead of the 2018 open enrollment season, CNBC reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. The campaign, called Get America Covered, will promote signups on the ACA exchanges and provide information about federal subsidies for eligible enrollees. The initiative follows President Donald Trump's administration's actions to cut the ACA's advertising budget by 90 percent in 2018 and shorten the open enrollment period.

2. Lori Lodes, co-founder of Get America Covered and a former communications director for CMS, told CNBC the campaign has an initial six-figure budget with plans to raise more funds.

3. Joshua Peck, former chief marketing officer for the federally run ACA exchange HealthCare.gov, also co-founded Get America Covered. Former CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt and former CEO of Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina Healthcare J. Mario Molina, MD, will serve as national co-chairs.
